About three years ago I was at a softball practice, and my team was just starting a new drill. The coach had us stand in our positions out in the field, and he would hit us a ball from home plate. Well, I was at second base, waiting for a ball to come in my direction and watching my teammates. The coach called out, "OK, Amy, this one's for you!" I got ready to receive the ball. He hit a grounder, and it was bouncing along at full speed. I put my mitt down, and before I knew it, the ball had taken an unexpected bounce and hit me on the nose. The impact knocked me off my feet! The girls' mothers rushed to my side and told my mom I really should go straight to the emergency room for an X-ray. But my mom remained calm as my friend's dad carried me to our car.
The next day I was back at practice without a bump or scratch anywhere near my nose.
