During midsummer 1995, I suffered from a severe ear infection that affected both ears. The pain and pressure seemed to come and go, causing periods of sleeplessness, so I prayed each time I was reminded of the problem by the pain and pressure. As many of us probably do in these situations, I wanted to be relieved of the pain. It distracted me from things that I needed to do. But in my study of Christian Science, every reference I looked up dealing with pain said there is no pain in matter. I apparently did not understand this sufficiently to be healed!

Ear infection healed through Christian Science.

The difficulty continued for several weeks before a citation in a Bible Lesson (found in the Christian Science Quarterly) hit home. Here's the passage that finally made sense to me: "Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness. The Christ is incorporeal, spiritual,—yea, the divine image and likeness, dispelling the illusions of the senses; the Way, the Truth, and the Life, healing the sick and casting out evils, destroying sin, disease, and death." And in the next paragraph, "Jesus demonstrated Christ; he proved that Christ is the divine idea of God—the Holy Ghost, or Comforter, revealing the divine Principle, Love, and leading into all truth" (Science and Health, p. 332).

As my understanding of these truths increased, I began listening for, and hearing, the message that finally dispelled the illusion I had taken in. It was not truly a part of me, the spiritual image and likeness of God. Shortly after this, the difficulty was simply gone—it had been erased from my consciousness and replaced by "the true idea voicing good."

There have also been healings of flu, severe headaches, acute appendicitis, back problems, arm problems, and internal bleeding, to name some of the conditions overcome through study of God's law. My gratitude for the Christ message and for Mary Baker Eddy's discovery of Christian Science which shows us how to demonstrate Christ, Truth, is unbounded.
