The importance of being "rooted in Scripture"
Does being rooted in Scripture really make any difference in the way we live our lives, in the health of a society?
Intuitively and by faith we know the answer is "yes." But surveys add statistical support for the validity of our faith, and record the fact that persons who have submitted to the Lord are more giving and forgiving, more charitable, more joyful, and more open and tolerant than the rest of the population. These people are the "quiet leaders" of our nation, and are having a powerful and salubrious effect upon our society.
The fact that we can document the power of faith—and for Christians, the power of the gospel—keeps me from being a pessimist about the future facing the nation. In fact, I believe that religious faith in this country is the glue that keeps us together as a nation.
