I have relied on Christian Science for healing of every kind...
I have relied on Christian Science for healing of every kind during my whole life. As I grew into adulthood, the recollection of one particular childhood healing buoyed my prayers on many occasions.
When I was about nine years old, I experienced a severe case of poison ivy, which covered my entire body. I remember relying on my mother's prayers as well as treatment from a practitioner. The practitioner came to our home for a visit with me. I immediately noticed the practitioner's loving expression and calm, confident voice. I was grateful for this, because I knew that I must have looked awful! I also remember specifically the spiritual thoughts she shared with me. She explained that God is perfect, spiritual, and beautiful. She quoted a sentence from Science and Health to me: "As a drop of water is one with the ocean, a ray of light one with the sun, even so God and man, Father and son, are one in being" (p. 361). I saw that if God was like the ocean, and if I was like a drop of water in the ocean, I could not have any characteristics that the whole ocean didn't have! I could not be a little muddy and brown drop of water in a clear, blue ocean! This analogy was perfect for me, because I loved the beach and spent a great deal of time enjoying the ocean's beauty! My fear and pain abated immediately.
I slept very peacefully and uninterruptedly that night for the first time in several days. When I woke up the next morning, nearly every vestige of the condition had disappeared. The few tiny spots that remained were gone by evening. That glimpse of my uninterrupted perfection as the child of God had healed me.
