I am so grateful for God's protecting power, which is always...
I am so grateful for God's protecting power, which is always available to us when we are listening to him. One instance of this occurred when I was playing field hockey. Fifteen minutes into the game, the ball deflected off an opponent's hockey stick and into my eye, causing a deep cut. The first thought that came to mind, instead of fear, was a verse from Acts: "For in him [God] we live, and move, and have our being" (17:28).
The gash under my eye closed naturally.
Players and spectators helped me off the field, and there were offers to take me to hospital for stitches. I continued to pray, refusing to let fear take over my thinking and holding to the fact that since I lived and moved in God, there could never have been an accident. When an accident occurs, we need not simply accept injury as reality. Instead, Science and Health urges us, "... reverse the process. Declare that you are not hurt and understand the reason why ..." (p. 397).
I thanked people for their concern and asked if they could ring my father to come and collect me. My father and I drove home together, declaring the allness of God.
Several days later the gash under my eye closed naturally, and in two weeks the scar was barely noticeable.
I continue to play hockey with gratitude to God and for Jesus Christ, who demonstrated for everyone the law "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32).
