WORKPLACE
Employed by God Permanently
The media today are filled with statistics about trends in employment. Many articles include warnings that cooperative trading can upset or destroy companies that have been established for years. And some reports tell of large-scale unemployment due to the relocation of businesses.
Individuals who fear the effects of company relocation or who are anxious about possible termination can find strength and peace in the Bible's assurance that God, good, governs every aspect of man's experience. God, divine Love, never eliminates man's usefulness. The certainty of His goodness is described in Isaiah: "Thus saith the Lord, ... Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me. I have made the earth, and created man upon it .... I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways" (45:11–13).
Here, the writer shows that God creates man, develops his desire to do good, and directs "all his ways." As Christ Jesus went about serving mankind, he always depended on God, divine Mind, to point out his path. Jesus voiced his total reliance on God when he said, "I must work the works of him that sent me ..." (John 9:4). Such complete trust in God must have grown out of an understanding that His love is unfailing, certain, and immediate. That same understanding establishes the spiritual standpoint needed to find employment.
