Christmas can't be denied
Think how insignificant a single feed trough in a stable would seem in a large city filled with people. Yet in this humble place was laid Jesus, the human representative of Christ, whose light fills the world. If we feel that there is no space for the Christ light in our hearts or in the rush of material activities at Christmas, we need only remember that it can be placed in the smallest corner of our thinking.
If it is nurtured there, it will grow to light our entire lives with the fullness of God's promise as given in the book of Isaiah: "The Lord shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody" (51:3).
The virgin birth of Christ Jesus, bringing to humanity the reality of man's sonship with God, was the expression of God's great love for mankind. Jesus' life and work show us how to understand and live our oneness with God, our Father.
