Can children throughout the world be safe and...
Can children throughout the world be safe and happy? This question is an urgent one in today's environment. Many children live under a cloud of personal concern in a way that the youth of earlier times seldom encountered.
During the month of September, publications of The Christian Science Publishing Society, including this one, will examine the serious problems of growing up in the nineties. The Sentinel begins a series with a focus on child abuse.
That people are ready to take action against child abuse is evident from efforts on all levels—local, national, and international. Particularly heartening are comments made by the founder of the Children's Defense Fund during Stand for Children day in Washington, D.C., in June and presented in more detail in this week's "News & Commentary." At that important rally, which was attended by thousands of people, Marian Wright Edelman said, "it's time to hold ourselves to a higher standard in our homes, in our communities, and in our government at all levels."
