A QUESTIONS & ANSWERS EXCHANGE
This column is a place to explore questions with other readers and with the editorial staff of the Christian Science Sentinel. The responses are offered not so much to close the question but to open possibilities for further prayer, exploration, and living of spiritual truth.
Q. I've only been a Christian for a short time, and I want to know how to be a better Christian father.—from a visitor to a Reading Room in New York
A. Share the joy of what you are discovering with your children. Study the Bible regularly. In many ways, Christ Jesus had to train or bring up his disciples as a parent raises a child. He taught them to pray; he helped them understand the Commandments. The disciples were the first to learn the Beatitudes and all the other lessons in the Sermon on the Mount. They saw firsthand the healing power of God demonstrated by the Master and learned how to help others. Jesus reassured them when they were afraid; he put down rivalry and tempered their rashness. He prayed for them.
