No room for periods of depression

Even the smallest glimpse of God's universal love can begin to lift us out of depression. I proved this myself one morning. On rising, I felt very depressed. While I was slicing an apple for breakfast, some seeds fell on the table, and the thought came to me that the "seed is in itself." This line is from the Bible account of creation in the first chapter of Genesis (verse 11). It reminded me that God, divine Love, is the only creator, and that His creation is inseparable from Him.

I took time to be grateful for divine Love's tender provision for me right there. Suddenly I felt the presence of God's great love for me. In that moment my thought was turned away from problems I faced to the contemplation of a higher law, the law of Love, which only blesses.

This reassuring view of God's love enabled me to start work that day in a clear frame of mind. Going to the office, I found that the fresh inspiration enabled me to deal with business problems in a much more confident way. I had an expectancy of good, based on a spiritual understanding of God. The day became brighter in every way, especially as my spiritually uplifted thought embraced those working with me. The Psalmist says, "O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together" (Ps. 34:3). Magnify the Lord, not the difficulty!
