FOR TEENAGERS

How can you discover your true potential?

"What do you want to be when you grow up?" How many times have you been asked that question? Early on, you may have answered, "schoolteacher" or "Olympic runner" or "computer programmer." Later, the answer might have become "Uh, I'm not so sure." And today? Well, maybe you have a better idea, or maybe you're still searching.

Even though people are interested in you and mean well when they ask what you want to be when you "grow up"—and sometimes give advice as well—it's important to think for yourself about what it all means. Or rather, to ask God and to pray about discovering you true potential.

One good place to start and learn something about your potential—what you're really capable of—is with what Christ Jesus had to say about the kingdom of God. "The kingdom of God" is Jesus' term for God's spiritual, perfect creation. "The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you," he said (Luke 17:20, 21).
