Finding permanent employment

The word employ means "to use" or "to make use of," so to be employed is to be useful. A description of Mind given in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, reads in part, "the divine Principle, or God, of whom man is the full and perfect expression" (p. 591). God needs man to express Himself. Expressing Him is how we are useful to Him. God, the all-knowing Mind, never creates an individual idea without a complete sense of its purpose. So we are always employed by our Father-Mother God as His expression, and this fact is the unchanging spiritual foundation for fulfilling and progressive activity here and now.

The more we know of God, who is infinite, the more we understand the infinite range of qualities that express Him. Christian Science uses a number of terms to elucidate the nature of God, including these seven synonyms: Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love. These names for God broaden and deepen our understanding of our creator and therefore of those qualities that express Him, such as intelligence, integrity, perseverance, poise, courage, and compassion.

Christ Jesus pointed to his expression of God's qualities as essential to the accomplishment to his work. He said: "He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works" (John 14:9, 10).
