The reports on healing in the Christian Science periodicals have always been a source of inspiration to me. Now I feel it is time to share some of my own healings with others.

Almost nine years ago a back problem restricted my movement and made both sitting and standing very uncomfortable. Because I had been raised in a Christian Science home and attended a Christian Science Sunday School, I knew I could turn to God for healing. When the condition was not met through my own prayers, I called a Christian Science practitioner. We prayed together to help me understand that freedom and dominion are God-given and immutable. I knew that God, divine Love, was guiding and supporting me each day. Hymn 139 from the Christian Science Hymnal was my constant companion. The first verse begins, "I walk with Love along the way, / And O, it is a holy day." Each day I was grateful that I was able to do whatever I needed to do.

Of the many passages in the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures that I studied, this passage from Acts was especially strengthening: "For in him we live, and move, and have our being" (17:28). In Science and Health Mary Baker Eddy states, "Mind is the source of all movement, and there is no inertia to retard or check its perpetual and harmonious action" (p. 283). I knew that I was not dependent on a material body, but that I lived and moved and had my being in God, divine Mind. Also helpful was this statement: "Take possession of your body, and govern its feeling and action. Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man" (ibid., p. 393).
