FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

Even teachers deserve love

As long as he could remember, Paul felt that he had to get high grades in school. He worked hard and enjoyed most of his classes, but English was definitely not his favorite subject. Some of the things his English teacher did in class, which were supposed to be funny, Paul thought were just plain weird. And besides, he felt that the teacher didn't like him.

When the only exam for the term was returned, he became convinced that the teacher actually hated him. After all, the girl next to him had more mistakes than Paul, but her grade was higher than his. It just wasn't fair—and the teacher wouldn't even discuss the problem! To make matters worse, there was no way that he could avoid being in that teacher's class the next term.

The whole situation made Paul feel quite miserable. He wasn't happy with his grade; he certainly didn't like the way his teacher treated him; and he didn't like himself for hating that teacher. Paul was attending the Christian Science Sunday School. There, he learned how important it is to follow Christ Jesus' example and to obey his words "Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven" (Matt. 5:44, 45).
