When my husband passed on very suddenly and unexpectedly...
When my husband passed on very suddenly and unexpectedly in 1958, we had just built a new home. Our son was eleven years old. I was working at the time, but my income was not nearly sufficient to meet the many expenses that go along with a new home. It was necessary for me to earn additional income, so I had three jobs.
The struggle went on for many months. I was blessed in having a mother who was a devout student of Christian Science. She gave me much encouragement, often referring me to a verse in the Bible or page in Science and Health. I prayed daily, and the Bible and Science and Health were my constant companions. Though he was only eleven, my son often brought home from the Christian Science Sunday School a statement of truth he knew would help me also.
Then one Wednesday I had a great desire to attend that evening's testimony meeting at a branch church clear across town from where I was living. I wondered about the wisdom of spending the money for gasoline, but I did go.
