An introduction to the Bible—a new series

In November, National Bible Month in many countries, the Christian Science Sentinel and The Herald of Christian Science will begin a series entitled "An introduction to the Bible." The series is intended to introduce the Bible to readers who may not be very familiar with it, especially young people. Along with acquainting readers with Biblical events and figures, the series will provide information about the geographical and historical contexts for the peoples and places of the Bible.

Appearing monthly in the Sentinel and the monthly Heralds, and quarterly in the quarterly Heralds, the series will begin with a general overview of the Bible. Next will follow several installments introducing Jesus Christ. The topics to be covered include the prophecy and birth of Jesus, his early years, his ministry and healing work, his role as a teacher and preacher, the crucifixion and resurrection, and the parables. Later subjects in the series will range from the patriarchs and prophets in the Old Testament to the early Christian churches in the New Testament. The series will also include activities designed to develop readers' knowledge of the Bible and to encourage them to think about its lessons. It is hoped that this series will foster a deeper interest in and love for the Holy Scriptures, and will be appropriate for sharing across denominational lines. So keep an eye out for "An introduction to the Bible" next month in the Sentinel and Herald!
