Recently , I found it very encouraging to review some of the many healings our family has had through prayer in Christian Science. As the list grew and grew, I was flooded with gratitude for these evidences of God's allness and love.
When our oldest daughter was a toddler, I was in the kitchen one night preparing dinner, while she was in the living room playing. I opened the oven door, pulled out a casserole dish, and then turned to set it on the counter. Suddenly I heard our daughter, right behind me, scream out in pain. She had crawled into the kitchen and then used the open oven door to pull herself up. I quickly picked her up and declared assuringly to her that she was God's child and could never be out of His care. I affirmed that I too was God's loved child and could never accidentally do something that could cause harm. I began singing a much-loved hymn from the Christian Science Hymnal to this child.
I immediately felt the tender ever-presence of God, and my daughter stopped crying at once. Within a few moments she wiggled from my arms and went back to playing. An hour later when I put her to bed, I noticed there was not a mark on her hands.
