Although I grew up a Christian Scientist, I was not at first a diligent student of its teachings. Even so, I had many healings. Here are three for which I am particularly grateful.

Our oldest son was about two and a half when he woke one morning, crying and complaining of pain in the abdominal area. He did not want breakfast, and finally the crying became screaming. Nothing I could do comforted him, and since he had always been a calm and tractable child, this behavior was especially frightening to me.

What filled my thought was that this trouble might be appendicitis. Even though I was not actively studying Christian Science at this time, it was all that I knew, and I knew that it healed. When I went to the telephone to call a practitioner, my father, who was visiting us, took the boy and carried him into another room so that I would be able to hear. When the practitioner answered, I was so frightened I could not speak. But she commenced to talk to me, assuring me of God's loving care and ever-presence, and in a moment I was able to tell her what I thought the trouble was. She said that she would pray immediately, and asked me to take the boy into the bedroom, put him on the bed, and read aloud to him from Science and Health, starting at whatever page the book opened to.
