When temptation comes ...
Temptation doesn't usually announce itself. It doesn't wear a flashing neon sign that says, "Watch out! I'm TEMPTATION!! And if you do what I tell you to, you'll be totally miserable!"
No, temptation usually sneaks up on us. It says seductively, "Just give in to me. I'm perfectly harmless. And I'm soooo attractive. Besides that, everyone else is doing what I'm trying to get you to do. So why shouldn't you?!"
Temptation is deceptive and persuasive. And it can be persistent, even after we've given it a firm "No." Yet meeting temptation head-on—standing strong against its allurements, facing it down—is part of our going forward spiritually, and in every other way.
