Getting to know Christ—through the Bible

"Tell me a story, Uncle Frank!" six-year-old Hannah said. Now, this was nothing unusual, because Hannah loves stories. And Uncle Frank is a pretty good storyteller. So whenever he's in town, Hannah keeps him—and the rest of the family—busy, from morning to night, telling stories. The trouble was that, after a couple of days with Hannah, Uncle Frank was just about out of new tales to tell. But that's when he remembered the lunch guest they were expecting. Her name was Ruth.

So Uncle Frank said, "How about if I tell you a true story about another 'Ruth' ... a story from the Bible?" That was a new idea for Hannah. She'd seen her grandpa studying the Bible, but she didn't really know too much what was in it. And she sure didn't know there were stories in it! So she told Uncle Frank to go ahead and tell her the Ruth story.

About thirty centuries ago, Uncle Frank said, a woman named Ruth lived in the Middle Eastern country of Moab (see Ruth, chaps. 1–4). She married a man named Mahlon, who was visiting—along with his parents and brother—from the land of Judah. It was Mahlon's family, Uncle Frank said, that introduced Ruth to the one God.
