Newspapers that seek solutions
Frank Denton, Editor of the daily morning newspaper The Wisconsin State Journal, was quoted earlier this year in The New York Times as saying that people in the city of Madison were sick of journalism that simply points out problems. "Our main goal," he said, "is in helping the public find the solutions to problems."
Many other newspaper editors in the United States, and in other parts of the world, share Mr. Denton's approach, insisting that amid breathtaking changes in media technology, the basic values of balance, accuracy, fairness, and truth are needed more than ever.
This week we bring you some thoughts on the subject from Gregory Favre, Executive Editor of The Sacramento Bee, a daily morning newspaper in California; and from David Cook, Editor of the international daily newspaper The Christian Science Monitor.
