A practitioner once suggested that I keep a journal of healings and the spiritual concepts that had helped effect them. In referring to that journal for the purpose of writing this testimony, I realize what a wealth of healing I have had in a short period of time.
During my early adult years I drifted away from the study of Christian Science; I felt I didn't need it. But almost two decades later I came to realize that only a return to the life of a Christian Scientist could fill the emptiness I felt. What has impressed me most in all my healings, whether physical or non-physical, is how simple God's healing truth is. I am also impressed with the fact that there is no situation outside the control of divine power, which governs every type of human experience one could possibly have.
One night I went to bed with a stomachache so painful I almost could not think. It had reached this critical point after several months of discomfort. I tried to repeat "the scientific statement of being" (see Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 468), but the distraction of the pain would cause me to lose my place, and I would return to the first sentence all over again. No matter how many times I tried, I could not get through the entire statement. Since I could only get as far as the first two sentences, I prayed only with them. I clung to their essence—namely, the insubstantiality of matter and the infinitude of God.
