Impossible neighbors?
The highest love we can give anyone is to know the truth about him or her, to see that person as the child of God, without a single element of error, right where a good or bad mortal seems to be. This is divine Love in action on earth as in heaven. It is capable of removing mountains of hatred, misunderstanding, and ignorance.
No greater example of expressing divine Love do we have than Christ Jesus. When questioned by a lawyer as to the greatest commandment in the law, Jesus said: "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets" (Matt. 22:37–40). Christian Science shows us how to love in this way by revealing man's spiritual nature—and his oneness with God, Love.
Expressing divine Love is basic to man's nature, but this love is more than a quality. It is a transforming power! It heals, for it is the mission of Christ-love to manifest itself in a way that humanity can understand—to give visible evidence of God's presence.
