This account concerns a time when I was driving a grasscutting tractor, dressed only in shorts and shoes. Suddenly I felt a burning sensation all over my body, as if I were being touched by needles. The exhaust of the tractor's motor had hit an underground nest of yellow jackets, and the entire swarm had come out and enveloped my exposed body.
I jumped off the tractor, brushing the blanket of insects off with bare hands, all the while declaring mentally the harmlessness of all creation, which is subject to the absolute control of divine Spirit. All evidence of the stings vanished, and I dressed and ate supper with my family, leaving the recounting of the experience to a later time.
So the evening passed and I peacefully retired when the time came. But about two o'clock in the night I jumped out of bed, unable to breathe. I felt I was dying, and a nearby mirror showed my face to be discolored and swollen. Again, as I turned at that moment to acknowledge all I knew of truth from my study of Christian Science, I noticed a copy of The Christian Science Journal, as if placed on the night table by my bed for this very occasion. I spotted the name and telephone number of my Christian Science teacher in the listing of practitioners. At two at night I dialed the number and received an instant reply. Briefly I presented the case, and heard a simple, quiet, totally reassuring response.
