Both my parents were Christian Scientists and took me to Sunday School when I was three. I learned very early to rely on God. I learned to pray; indeed, I learned that God is only good, always present with man, and all-powerful. He knows no disease.
I often recall a healing from when I was a child. I had a suppuration of the middle ear, which was very painful and unpleasant. My grandmother, with whom I was spending my vacation, took me to an ear specialist. In my presence this doctor said an operation was absolutely necessary because the bone in the ear had started to become affected as well.
My parents learned of this, and I did not have the operation because we wanted to rely only on God to heal me. We therefore requested the prayers of a Christian Science practitioner. There was some improvement, but not full healing at that time.
