A world in need of original thinking

I once thought fresh, creative thinking was not only a wonderful talent but also a rare one. It certainly wasn't something I felt came easily and naturally for me. As hard as I would try to come up with a unique design in an architecture class at school, or to have a new approach to programming for a broadcasting client, it seemed terribly difficult to break new ground, to see things in a new way. Yet this gradually changed. It changed as a result of my learning more about God through Christian Science.

Spiritual education has quite a remarkable effect on us. More than merely an intellectual exercise, learning about God is an expansive and transforming experience. Every insight into the nature of God we gain, every glimpse we have of His tenderness, His unlimited intelligence and power, reveals the greater capacities and abilities we all truly have as His image and likeness.

What a close look at society indicates is a widespread desire for original thinking. This isn't simply because people are getting restless with the same old approaches to contemporary lifestyles, or health care, or employment, or how parents and children can make family life better. It's because intuitively people know there must be higher, better ways of approaching these matters. Christ Jesus' life certainly indicates the vast range of possibilities that are open to all of us, under any circumstances, when we understand God and our relationship to Him.
