Love meets our needs

When our prayers seem fruitless, maybe we need to yield more fully to the message of divine Love.

Like many who read Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, I'm drawn to this powerful statement: "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need. It is not well to imagine that Jesus demonstrated the divine power to heal only for a select number or for a limited period of time, since to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good" (p. 494). This promise of God's unconditional help is very comforting.

It's not a new promise. Christ Jesus assured us of God's ability to care for humanity. Actually, he did more than just tell us of God's love; he demonstrated this love. When Jesus healed sickness, comforted the sorrowing, overcame sin, and raised the dead, he demonstrated divine Love's all-power. By doing this Jesus not only glorified God; he also demonstrated man's true identity as the child of God, the spiritual expression of infinite Life and Love.

Today Christian Science communicates the Christ message of Love in the way Jesus pointed out—through the teaching and practice of Christian healing. Healing is the outcome of spiritual awakening. Divine Love awakens us to the perfection of its creation and to the integrity, wisdom, unselfishness, and love that are inviolable aspects of man's God-given individuality. We see His goodness in terms we understand, finding a better sense of employment, home, family, friends, health, and fulfillment. And after our first healing in Christian Science, we naturally expect further healing. Our expectation is right, for healing is God's will. Divine Life, Truth, and Love destroy all error—all sickness, sin, death.
