Electromagnetic forces or spiritual intelligence?
Theories of physics propose some fascinating views of the basic building blocks of creation. But they raise important questions, as well.
Do we find it astonishing that Christ Jesus walked on water? Though it contradicts everything that would seem to be normal, or even possible, to the physical senses, the Scriptures tell us it happened. How was it possible, and what was actually supporting Jesus? What does this demonstration have to do with our own lives today, almost two thousand years later?
Walking on the sea was more than a proof of Jesus' control over a material circumstance. He was, in fact, being supported by God's ever-present spiritual law and the perfect dominion it confers. His exercise of spiritual dominion illustrated—for his disciples, including us—the very substance of God's creation and of our true identity as a child of God. Jesus' understanding of the nature of God and man as divine Principle and idea, and of our capacity to reflect God's power, brought forth his statement "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also" (John 14:12).
Discerning Jesus' demonstration as being in accord with spiritual law, which underlies reality, we can begin to learn from it rather than be astonished by it. Jesus brought to human consciousness the true idea of God, or Christ, and showed us how to utilize God's law to overcome sin, sickness, and any other limitation in our daily experience. Jesus' teachings and demonstrations peel away material beliefs and reveal the man that is created in God's image and likeness.
