A few years ago I attended a dance with a friend

A few years ago I attended a dance with a friend. During the evening there were numerous and varied styles of music played, from slow ballroom selections to very vigorous swing and polka numbers. Each dance was lengthy and energetic. I've always enjoyed dancing, but at the end of the evening I certainly felt I'd had my fill.

After arriving home and preparing for bed, I felt a muscle pulling in one toe. I didn't think a whole lot about it, but, on the basis of my years of studying Christian Science, I acknowledged that there is no truth in pain or sensation in matter, as explained in Science and Health (see, for instance, p. 113).

After going to bed, I woke a few hours later lying flat on my stomach and in such discomfort that I couldn't move. My legs were heavy and stiff and intensely painful. I thought if I could just get into another position it might help, but after finally succeeding in turning over with much effort, found no relief. I thought of calling out to another member of the household, as it was impossible to stand to get to a phone and call a Christian Science practitioner.
