Why is there a Christian Science Reading Room in the community?

People often have questions for which they either assume there are no satisfactory answers or have no idea where to go to find them.

Individuals from all walks of life who had such questions found Christ Jesus to be approachable and compassionate when he was preaching his theology in public places in the cities and the countryside throughout the regions of Galilee. They felt free to come to him. And come they did! For he taught the things of God in words and deeds people could relate to. His teachings rang true not only in their ears but in their lives, in healing and regeneration. In what Jesus taught, people found satisfying answers to their fundamental questions about life and being. As we read in the Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament, "Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people" (4:23). Those who became serious students of Jesus' theology found they were able to restore themselves and others to wholeness through the Christ, Truth, which he lived and taught.

Jesus' practical theology is more available to the general public throughout the world today—to learn and to practice—than it has ever been before in human history. This is due to the widespread distribution of the Bible, and of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
