I am truly grateful for Christian Science, especially for its healing influence on which I rely as a parent. Our family has had healings of illness, injuries, and relationship problems.

When our son was born, the doctor, who knew we had been praying during the pregnancy, said, "Well, God certainly took care of this little man!" Apparently the umbilical cord had what he termed a "true" knot in it, meaning that the baby had at some state manoeuvred in such a way as to tie a knot in the cord, which could have cut him off from his life-support system. But truly he had never lost his actual life support—God! After the birth his skin assumed a yellow tinge, and the doctor predicted there would be a delay in taking the baby home because treatment for jaundice might be necessary. With the further prayer of a Christian Science practitioner, this condition was healed within a few hours and we were able to go home.

The same child developed severe eczema. When it wasn't healed quickly through Christian Science treatment, we sought a physician's attention in an effort to relieve the child's discomfort. Although there was no medical cure, certain creams were prescribed to ease the symptoms, and I was referred to a paediatrician who ran some tests and said it was possible the baby also had a condition known as phenylketonuria. Had this been diagnosed at birth, a special diet would have been prescribed to avoid certain effects, such as mental retardation. However, in our country no such tests are done at birth, and at nine months of age my son was already eating foods doctors now said should have been avoided. The paediatrician also said he appeared backward in development.
