Some time ago a childhood friend of mine passed away
Some time ago a childhood friend of mine passed away. He was quite young, and his passing grieved me terribly; it seemed so unnecessary.
My wife supported me in this time of difficulty. And as Christian Scientists so often do to heal grief and confusion and unhappiness, as well as physical ills, I went to "the books"—the Bible and Science and Health. The Bible contains the healing truth of God's goodness for everyone for all time; Science and Health is the Christian Science textbook, which helps us understand the Scriptures in their spiritual sense—to understand God and man's relationship to Him.
The Christian Science Bible Lesson for that week included Moses' questioning reply to God, after God had chosen him to deliver the Israelites out of Egypt: "When I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?" God answered, "I AM THAT I AM: ... Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you" (Ex. 3:13, 14).
