A heart for community
It's natural to care deeply about community. Real love for family extends to neighbors—and overflows for the whole of society. This occasional column tells how a spiritual perspective has been helping Sentinel readers help others and make a contribution to healing some of the challenges facing communities today.
When last year's Southern Women's Show opened its doors in Nashville, Tennessee, in March, a new exhibitor was there—the Reading Room of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Nashville. The four-day event, cosponsored and highly publicized by one of the city's daily newspapers, welcomed some 38,000 visitors.
Amid booths about commercial enterprises and new products, careers and family, the new booth was headlined "The Spirituality of Woman." There could be found copies of the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, books about Christian Science, tapes and books and videos for children, and, for the taking, stacks and stacks of Christian Science Sentinels. Some of the Sentinels were displayed at the entrance of the booth for easy access; others were inside, arranged under topics of interest.
