The healing power of spiritual purity

Spiritual purity isn't a subject that finds a great deal of attention in public discourse these days. You're not likely to hear a report about it on the six o'clock news or read front-page headlines announcing that it has suddenly become a priority issue in this year's political campaigns. Yet the kind of spiritual purity which remains at the heart of Christian life is absolutely vital to the welfare of society. In fact, from the standpoint of anyone who is endeavoring to uplift the standards, values, and ethics of the 1990s, it could be argued that if purity isn't receiving front-page attention, it's about time it did!

Practicing the purity of thought and motive inspired by the teachings of Christ Jesus has been shown to be far-reaching in its beneficial effect and influence. Of course, it relates directly to morality, to how we treat one another, to a people's willingness to be law-abiding, honest, and caring rather than corner-cutting, or abusive.

Purity has another significant influence, however, which isn't always readily recognized. Purity is essential to one's health. Purity is actually health-giving. It is a powerful renewing force in our lives. And when undergirded with prayer, the purity of genuine spiritual-mindedness has healed both chronic and acute illness, as well as regenerating individual hearts that may have felt utterly lost in sin.
