Although I was brought up in a Christian Scientist household...
Although I was brought up in a Christian Scientist household and went to Sunday School regularly, I got caught up in social drinking when I began college. This drinking continued for years, until I found myself in a bad state. I spent my waking time either getting ready for a drinking party, going to one, or recovering from one. Between hangovers, memory losses, and feelings of guilt, I had little time for anything productive. My health and looks continued deteriorating daily.
One morning after a big drinking binge, I felt totally alone and worthless. Then a voice spoke these words to me: "Love is paving the way." As Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health: "The 'still, small voice' of scientific thought reaches over continent and ocean to the globe's remotest bound. The inaudible voice of Truth is, to the human mind, 'as when a lion roareth.' It is heard in the desert and in dark places of fear." This describes exactly how this message came to me; the words sounded "'as when a lion roareth.'"
I knew immediately that my consciousness was full of the light of God, Truth, which makes man free. I was conscious of my innate purity and my spirituality as a creation of my Father-Mother God. From that moment on, I was totally and completely free from the desire for alcohol.
