One day my daughter was hit by a pickup truck in front of our house. The driver of the truck rushed her to a hospital. When I learned of this through a call from the hospital, I prayed. I was conscious of the spiritual fact that in God's kingdom, the reign of Love, there can be no accidents and all is well. I was also grateful for the concern expressed by those who knew of the accident.
On arriving at the hospital, I found my daughter distressed by the unfamiliar surroundings, the physical examination they were attempting to give her, and her injuries (she had severe lesions on her body and head). During the interim I had asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner, who lovingly agreed to pray for us. My daughter was convinced that medical treatment was not necessary, and the doctors and the nurses, although insistent, did not examine her. I assured them that I would be responsible for her full recovery. I promised to bring convincing proof of this both to the doctors and to the owner of the truck. My daughter was then released.
An assurance of peace flooded my thought, and my heart swelled with gratitude to see my daughter free of fear—certain that life is not subject to matter nor to mechanical, human means, but rather to the one omniscient, omnipresent, and omniactive power, God. We felt God's love enveloping us.
