A report from The Christian Science Board of Directors
The following is the text of an announcement The Christian Science Board of Directors shared with employees at the Christian Science Center on March 9, 1992.
This is a formative time for this Church, a time that continues to demand extraordinary efforts from all of us. Since 1984, we have been acting upon a commitment made by the members of this Church to live for all mankind. Since then, as you all know from experience, this Church has never been more active. Not unexpectedly, there have been some singular challenges along the way. But they have been more than compensated for by truly significant accomplishments and victories. Any number of lives have been improved as a result of the work that you have done. At this time, the very best is being demanded of us all. Once again we face challenges, but as it is not our nature to fight back, we shall keep our course and fight forward.
Writing about the early history of this Church, Mrs. Eddy made this observation: "Although walking through deep waters, the little Church went steadily on, increasing in numbers, and at every epoch saying, 'Hitherto hath the Lord helped us.'" Manual of The Mother Church, p. 18. During the past days and weeks, the Board of Directors has felt this reassurance and seen evidence of such divine aid at every step. We have been revisiting our stated goals and aims. On the one hand, this activity has grounded us even more firmly on our intent to bring help and healing to a weary world. On the other hand, this is impelling some significant changes. These changes are helping us see how to accomplish the goals we have set and for which all of you have labored beyond what anyone could ask. Your steadfastness, your support, and your total commitment to this work inspire us and give us inexpressible appreciation for you all.
