About four or five months after I renewed my study of Christian Science, a number of years ago, while I was at work, I slipped on a highly polished floor and fell down hard. I heard a loud crack as I came down on one ankle and foot.
This really took me by surprise. But even as I was falling, I knew so clearly that I could not be harmed. In her book Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy explains what to do when an accident happens: "Declare that you are not hurt and understand the reason why, and you will find the ensuing good effects to be in exact proportion to your disbelief in physics, and your fidelity to divine metaphysics, confidence in God as All, which the Scriptures declare Him to be."
The day had been lovely and productive with lots of good exchange in the meetings I had attended. I had been thinking about this just before I slipped. And now this incident seemed to be trying to say that something could make the day end on a bad note.
