Prison break
If we've been in a prison of fear or sickness, we can begin to find release today—through the power of God.
It was midnight. From the prison came an unusual sound that must have amazed those who heard it—singing. The book of Acts tells us Paul and Silas had been imprisoned for healing a young woman, a soothsayer, of the spirit that possessed her and that brought profits to her owners. As they prayed, singing praises to God, an earthquake caused the prison doors to open and everyone's bonds to be released. What an awe-inspiring answer to prayer!
Paul declared, preaching to the Athenians, "In him [God] we live, and move, and have our being; ... For we are also his offspring." Paul, a faithful follower of Christ Jesus, proved the truth of these words on numerous occasions.
The one infinitely good God, whom the Bible declares to be Spirit, and in whom we truly live, could know nothing of either imprisonment or earthquake, which are material conditions. But this did not prevent His law from bringing harmony to the situation when that law was acknowledged in prayer.
