At one time, because of an unexpected change of circumstances in my life, it was necessary for me to relocate and find employment. Previous to this, I had earned a good salary, had a conveniently located apartment, and held a position as organist in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. In the new area, I had none of these.
For several months I visited Christian Science Reading Rooms daily, praying to overcome the fear of being jobless, homeless, and music-less. For many hours each day I read, studied, and prayed, endeavoring to see that my true, spiritual selfhood includes all good because I am God's reflection, ever at one with Him. I knew that God's love is ever present, not only for me but for all and that my seeking would result in finding because God never withholds good from His children. Soon, three things occurred.
The branch church in the vicinity where I was living held auditions for a permanent organist. I was auditioned and hired. Through a friend I was alerted to a small house for rent, surrounded by trees and land. It was ideal for practicing and teaching music—something I had wanted to do for a long time. Then the weekend before I moved into the house, I was interviewed and accepted as a residential assistant in a local retirement facility. With all this evidence of good, I felt more than ever the strength and tenderness of our Father-Mother God.
