A heart for community

It's natural to care deeply about community. Real love for family extends to neighbors—and overflows for the whole of society. This occasional column tells of how a spiritual perspective has been helping Sentinel readers help others and make a contribution to healing some of the collective challenges facing communities today.

Some years ago I became a volunteer helper in a children's village not far from where I live in England. (The children are from poor, rural families in developing countries. They are educated free of charge at schools, colleges, and universities and then return to their native countries.)

The children are from Hindu, Buddhist, and Islamic families, and the housemothers are of the same nationality and culture as the children in each house.
