Late in 1990, I began to suffer from a debilitating illness, which became steadily worse. This caused me to pray earnestly for healing, taking a firm stand for my spiritual perfection. I asked a Christian Science practitioner to provide prayerful assistance.

I tried not to be impressed by the seriousness of the physical symptoms, which included weakness, difficulty in walking, shortness of breath, and loss of weight. In addition I began to experience a severe case of flu.

Together my husband and I prayed, often repeating passages from the Bible and the works of Mary Baker Eddy and singing hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal. On some nights, when I was restless and unable to sleep, we would read the weekly Christian Science Bible Lesson. The spiritual truths from these lessons would help to calm my thought, and sleep came more easily. Daily talks with the practitioner were inspiring and strengthened my resolve to find healing. With assistance I was able to attend church services, which brought much inspiration.
