It is with great joy and gratitude that I write about the birth of our new little daughter. In 1991 my wife and I were overjoyed to discover that we were to become parents. We began taking steps to get ready for the event, which included employing a midwife. We also began ongoing, specific prayer in Christian Science. Early in the pregnancy, however, a disturbing incident occurred late one evening; it appeared that my wife was suffering the symptoms of a miscarriage.

We were fearful and tried to call a Christian Science practitioner whom we knew well, but could not reach him. We then called a Christian Science practitioner whom we had never before met. Although she had just returned from out of town, we were very grateful when she instantly agreed to help.

We began to pray to know the spiritual truth that none of God's children can be lost and that they are all held in God's dear love. Fear has no power, because God is all power. God is Love, and the Bible says, "Perfect love casteth out fear." We also recognized that physical conditions were not reliable or truthful; the spiritual facts of existence alone are true.
