Angels are always present to help us

In the midst of pressures or any challenge, God's pure thoughts are available to uplift and heal.

One Christmas we were given a tree ornament—a delicately carved angel with wings, blowing a trumpet. Instead of putting it on a tree we tacked it to a window so the light would come through it. The slight drafts at the window made the angel constantly turn back and forth on its string, tapping on the window as if to say, "Here I am."

This got me thinking. While I certainly knew that angels were not little people with feathery wings, I did begin to think of wings as representative of the freedom and action of angels.

My study of Christian Science had taught me that angels are God's holy thoughts. They are not human thoughts, even though they come to human consciousness as the result of prayer and listening for God's voice. They are divine ideas, expressing God's pure and presence. These ideas may be perceived humanly, but, being divinely impelled, they have a wholly spiritual nature. They tell us that our real selfhood is perfect, that God is present, that life is actually eternal and harmonious.
