On what do we base our decisions?

When impulsive acts become commonplace, it's time to examine our motives.

[Original in Portuguese]

Every day there are countless decisions to be made. Each one can become an opportunity to draw closer to God, to the unerring source of all that is good and right and reliable.

I've had to learn to examine my own motives in this light. In fact, one of the most important things I have learned through Christian Science is this self-examination. Before I knew about Christian Science, I often tended to do many things with hardly a thought about the motives behind my actions or their possible consequences. Eventually I realized there was a subtle reason why I didn't give more careful thought to things. I believed that much of what I did had little consequence and little to do with God, that my daily life was somehow different or removed from God's realm, or reality. As I think about this attitude, I realize that I wasn't alone in it. This is the general material view of life.
