Returning to the business world after many years of raising...
Returning to the business world after many years of raising a family can be quite challenging. But, as we learn in Christian Science, our true employment is always that of expressing God. I found in my return to business some years ago, after serving as a homemaker for many years, that I simply had new opportunities to use God-given talents and to express God-derived intelligence and creativity.
Because of my previous experience in selling advertising for a newspaper, I was recommended for a position that involved selling advertising for a nationwide publication. The section of the publication I was assigned to sell had been doing very poorly. I found that with a lot of enthusiasm and diligence, and most of all a great deal of prayer, the section began to grow, much to the satisfaction of the officers of the company. Adding to my understanding of God as the one, divine Mind, provided a growing experience for me and truly met many needs.
Consequently, it was quite a shock when the director called me into her office one day, expressed her dissatisfaction with me, using a rather flimsy pretense, and put me on probation. I did challenge her remarks, but when I left the office I felt like packing up and leaving.
