At one time I had not slept well in days and had many tasks...

At one time I had not slept well in days and had many tasks to complete before leaving for a trip. I also had a baby to care for. However, instead of turning to God for support, I was determined to plow ahead on my own. Soon I became ill. I developed a fever, and there was also a lack of bladder control.

Humbly I turned to God in prayer. While I fed the baby I thought of passages from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, including the one that speaks of God as "the great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence." Thinking deeply about these spiritual truths helped me maintain equilibrium.

Over the next few hours I recalled passages from the weekly Bible Lesson outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly. The subject of the lesson was "Truth." So many statements from Science and Health were comforting to me. I lay down as the baby napped, but I continued to pray and to reason with passages from the book.

Later, when I rose, I was more alert, and there was improved bladder control and balance, but my vision was blurry. Almost instantly I thought of one of Christ Jesus' healings, of a blind man, recorded in the Bible. Mark's Gospel records that when Jesus healed him, he "saw every man clearly." This account gave me a new direction for my prayer. I saw I had unwittingly accepted a limited, material view of myself—that I had become tired, then sick, and now had to raise myself back up! I got a glimpse of the fact that in reality I was the spiritual man of God's creating, complete and perfect. I realized that I needed to pray from the standpoint of man's original spiritual perfection.

I felt I should call a friend to help me as I prayed, so I did. We talked about the fact that God is always in complete control of His spiritual creation.

As I continued my study and prayer, the fever left and my vision cleared. I slept only briefly that night but rose refreshed. Then I was able to complete all necessary preparations for the trip.

As grateful as I am for the physical healing and for the harmonious trip that followed, I am especially grateful for my renewed trust in God as the One Almighty who is in complete control of His creation.

Over ten years ago I had an instantaneous healing of flu symptoms. I knew that God's spiritual man is exempt from disease, as Jesus proved, and in his words I said with authority, "Get thee hence, Satan" (Matthew). Never again have I suffered from the numerous flu symptoms that had previously troubled me each year for many years.

For this Christianly scientific way of life I am most grateful. I can think of no better way to teach and care for my young family.
