During my early childhood we lived where a telephone was not available in our home. Not until years later did I realize what a blessing this actually was. Through Christian Science our family learned deep reliance on God. If we had need to get in touch with a Christian Science practitioner to assist us in praying to overcome a challenge, it was necessary to do this during daylight hours, as we had to walk some distance to a telephone or even to mail a letter.
Thus, we really studied the Bible and Mary Baker Eddy's writings, memorized a good many statements of spiritual truth, and felt safe in what we were learning of God's care.
My brother and I experienced few of the diseases commonly associated with childhood. I recall a quick healing of mumps, when my mother sat by my bedside and prayed for me. The healing took place that day.
