During the Christmas season in 1905, my grandfather came...
During the Christmas season in 1905, my grandfather came to visit my mother. He had become an early follower of Christian Science after being healed of pneumonia. He brought a book entitled Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy as a gift to his daughter. She was raising five children alone. He explained his healing of pneumonia and the new concept he had gained of God and the Science of Christ healing. He told my mother how he had been helped in his business and relationships, and he said he believed she would find blessings and healings for her family through Christian Science.
I was eleven years of age at that time, and I listened intently to all he related. I was a Sunday School pupil in another church but did not understand much about God. My grandfather gave us a very new (to us) understanding of God, of Christ, and of how Jesus had brought about healings of sickness and sin. I wanted to learn more, so I began to attend a Christian Science Sunday School. This led to an entirely new way of thinking, and healings followed.
My first healing was of scarlet fever. The prayers of a Christian Science practitioner were requested. This proved to be such a quick healing that the official quarantine seals on our home were removed, and we children were allowed to return to school. No other member of the family became ill. This experience brought the whole family into Christian Science. All soon enjoyed healings and blessings. Later Mother was able to put all of her five children through college.
