Upward flight
The startled water bird leaps
Swift as thought
From dreaming on the placid pond
To soaring, onward circling heights.
His skyward thrust is master of the moment's fear
Which falls away
Unheeded as the silver raining from his breast.
So we, with quickened urgency,
Respond to Love,
Awake from dread
To vibrancy and joy.
The dark dissolves in clear transparency
Of fresh perceiving—
That Life has always compassed us
With LIGHT!
